This very candid story is one of my personal favourites. As a physiotherapist with a background in sport Vanessa thinks she is well educated in the science of health and fitness. When she takes up marathon running and discovers she is good at it, it is not long before she has drawn up a strict training regime and is aiming for Commonwealth Games selection. Before she knows it she is obsessed with increasing her distances and restricting her eating in order to be lighter, all the while denying that she has a problem. She looks fit therefore she must be healthy. However, very soon her body begins a dramatic break down with long-term consequences and Vanessa has to face a hard lesson…that looking fit doesn’t always mean being healthy. A great read for anyone with an interest in sports and health.
